Essen für alle“Comida para todos“ 2023-2024

Thanks to the support of the Bethovianos de school, which helped us to finance the kitchen and utensils, we were able to develop and implement the "Food for all" project. The aim of the project was to train the soup kitchen staff in nutrition and health in the kitchen and dining room. Part of the project also involved setting up a dining room with a kitchen and utensils for the soup kitchen's guests

1- Target group

The project was carried out in the Rosa Mercedes del Águila Perú soup kitchen in the Amarilis district, Sector 4, which serves between 150 and 200 people a day with breakfast, lunch and dinner.

2 - Project activities

- Meeting with the cooks (2022).
- Meeting with the city council to examine the possibility of assistance and to apply for authorisation to improve the infrastructure (2022).
- Contact with the Ministry of Health (2023)
- Development of a concept for workshops on the topic of nutrition in November (2023)
- Planning visits to view the necessary materials together with the mothers December (2023)
- Search for cooking equipment and utensils at various markets in the region, selected according to quality and price for purchase December (2023)
- Development of training on 8 and 9 February (2024)
- Delivery of the materials on 9 February (2024)
- Community meeting and next steps on 9 February 2024

3 – Difficulties and obstacles in implementing the project

At the beginning of the project, it was very difficult to liaise with the municipality to improve the infrastructure of the soup kitchen. The work with the person in charge took so long that we had to postpone the roofing until next year because we needed authorisation from the municipality for the renovation.

4 - Public relations and response to the project

The material supplied was very well received by the local people right from the start, as they had not had a cooker for years and cooked with firewood, which was often detrimental to their health. They also had no plates or cutlery. The nutrition training was also very well received, as there were many beliefs about health and nutrition that could be changed or viewed from a new perspective thanks to the new knowledge.

5 – Sustainability

The kitchen, utensils and nutritional training are parts of the project that we will continue to support next year. The people who have supported the project have strengthened the bond between the cooks and the members who visit the canteen to provide for themselves.
Am Tag der Übergabe kochten wir gemeinsam und besprachen die Themen, die noch entwickelt werden müssen, wie z. B. die Verbesserung der Dachkonstruktionen, der Anstrich des Geländes, die Überprüfung des Mülltrennungssystems, die Arbeit im Garten usw. All dies sind Aufgaben, die im Jahr 2024 mit Hilfe von Gemeinschaftsarbeit durchgeführt werden sollen.
